Mark Potter, CISSP-ISSEP ISSMP FIP CAP CSSLP HCISPP SSCP CISM CRISC CISA FITSP-M FITSP-A SCF CIPP/G CIPP/US CIPM CIPT CCSK ITIL-F Security+ has worked in IT for over 24 years including 13 years focused on information security, governance, risk management, regulatory compliance and data protection/privacy program design and implementation. He has worked for start-ups, Fortune 500 companies and federal government contractors in multiple roles including CISO, data warehouse architect and software developer.

Mark currently serves as Chief Information Security Officer for NewWave. Prior to joining NewWave, Mark served as the Principal Systems Security Officer at StrategicHealthSolutions where he provided oversight and coordination of security efforts, initiatives and standards across the CMS Medicare Secondary Payer Integration Contractor program as well as the security deliverables of the Coordination of Benefits & Recovery Contractors. Mark also served as CISO at Danya International for close to 7 years where he was responsible for information security, privacy, governance, risk management and compliance of Danya’s Federal, commercial and internal client systems throughout the systems lifecycle. Prior to working at Danya, he worked as Director of IT Security at a publicly traded international satellite radio company and as a Senior Information Security Analyst at Washington Gas.

Before moving into security, Mark spent 6 years as a data architect building and integrating operational databases for an established public utility as well as a startup in the OSS telecom space; He also designed, built and tuned data warehouses for a Fortune 500 company serving the business intelligence needs of the pharmaceutical industry in Canada and the U.K. Mark started his IT career in software development and spent 5 years designing systems and writing code for companies in the aerospace, retail, credit bureau, software and pharmaceutical industries.

Mark is passionate about the intersection of data governance, privacy, security, risk management, cloud architecture and design patterns. Mark was honored to have been asked to serve as an advisory board member for 2014-2015 for the Capitol Technology University Information Assurance Program. He is an active member of multiple security and privacy associations, working groups and standards initiatives. He has been a member of InfraGard since 2004 and serves as Maryland InfraGard’s Sector Chief for the IT sector. He is an active member of the NIST Cloud Computing Security Working Group.
